Webinar: A sneak peek into engageSPARK
At the ICT4D conference in Ghana, we asked attendees if they would like to participate in a webinar to discuss topics they were interested in.
A few weeks ago, we hosted the event. As promised, we covered the main topics requested by the attendees.
We explained more about our work, gave a platform demo, shared a couple of interesting case studies, discussed how we’re leveraging AI, answered questions, and more.
Mercy Corps’ financial literacy initiative
This is a special story for us because it was about our first customer
Following Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, Mercy Corps launched a financial literacy program using engageSPARK’s platform to aid 20,000 survivors in the Philippines. They utilized SMS and automated calls to deliver a 12-episode soap opera drama, teaching essential financial skills to build resilience against future crises.
They had impressive results!
Mercy Corps sent over 1,000,000 messages, achieving a 48% response rate to follow-up quizzes. The initiative led to a 106% increase in savings account usage among participants. The success of this campaign inspired a second series to further enhance financial literacy.
A talking device for illiterate populations
Some questions in Surveys are about getting the participants thoughts in their own words, for example for a smoking cessation campaign:
“What is the most difficult thing when quitting smoking?”
The reply then is a shorter or longer text … that someone needs to read.
But wouldn’t it be great, if you could easily tell, which replies fit into which “general bucket”? Running your smoking cessation campaign, you might want to address peer pressure next. So imagine we could automatically tell you which replies are about peer pressure—versus other issues—so you can focus on those.
Wouldn’t that be great? Well, yes, it really is. And it’s only one click away, powered by AI.
