Financial literacy education for microentrepreneurs in the Philippines

Microentrepreneurs in the Philippines often face significant financial challenges. Without proper knowledge of saving and budgeting, many struggle to sustain their businesses and improve their living conditions. Addressing these financial struggles was crucial to fostering economic stability and growth within these communities.

NWTF, with the support of ideas42, implemented a comprehensive financial literacy program utilizing EngageSpark’s platform. The program featured weekly pre-recorded voice calls lasting 4 to 5 minutes, designed to deliver practical training on saving and budgeting. Over five and a half months, close to 70,000 voice calls were made, ensuring extensive reach and impact.

9 different tools for your campaigns

Our platform offers different tools to enhance your campaign strategies, ensuring effective communication and engagement with your audience.

Key features include SMS Blast for rapid, personalized messaging, IVR Surveys (aka Robocalls) for automated phone-based data collection, and Airtime Topups to incentivize survey participation with mobile credits. These tools are designed to streamline outreach efforts, provide quick reminders, and handle emergency alerts efficiently.

For more interactive and targeted engagement, we provide WhatsApp Surveys, enabling multimedia-rich question distribution, and SMS Surveys for two-way text-based feedback. Additionally, Call Blast facilitates mass voice message dissemination, while our Drip Campaign feature schedules a series of messages across SMS, WhatsApp, or Voice channels. For guided and high-quality interviews, the CATI Survey tool supports call center agents, and our Reminder service ensures timely notifications about events or educational content.

These powerful tools are crafted to meet various campaign needs, from educational messages to critical alerts and post-intervention studies.

A prediction about internet access

Billions of people remain offline nowadays. In LMICs, some people don’t even have access to necessities, let alone mobile phones. It is still a distant reality for so many communities.

Avner Mizrahi, our CEO and co-founder shared these thoughts in a team meeting:

“I mean, I remember when we started this, you know, 11 plus years ago, people were like:  You’re not going to have a business in five years. Everyone’s gonna be on a smartphone.

And I was like, no, no, you’re wrong. You’ve never been to remote parts of Africa. You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

And look at where we are now, 11 years later, there are more than 2 billion people who have never been online.

Due to many factors, it’s likely that some of these communities will still remain there for some time.

We’ll be here to continue connecting organizations with populations that are hard to reach, aiming to improve their quality of life.
